Limbus is an ongoing series, started in 2011 with Limbus (Rage). It’s an exploration of video game environments from a different point of view from the players: underneath the levels.
The result is a dislocated universe made up of fragments. A nostalgic vision of a world that we observe from a distance, like a spectre, without being able to interact with it.
Initially, the Limbus series exploited bugs in games. Now it is produced using more advanced tools that allow greater control and complete freedom in framing and camera movements.
“By positioning the camera in impossible perspectives, such as beneath the ground, Arcier reveals hidden layers of these virtual worlds, transforming glitches from technical errors into aesthetic opportunities. Drawing on the concept of “limbo” as a state of ambiguity and incompleteness, the series presents these digital environments as fragile and transient, exposing the hollowness of the virtual spaces we inhabit. Limbus IV series invites viewers to reflect on the nature of virtual reality, subverting the conventional structures of video games to offer a philosophical meditation on presence and absence, unrealized potential and shadows of lost data.”
